Nara Thai Restaurant at Westgate, Singapore (outlet closed)

(Update – the set lunch menu at Nara has been revised. See our updated review in Jan 2015 here).

Nara Thai restaurant, well known for its Boat Noodles and authentic Thai dishes, just opened a branch at #03-07 Westgate Mall. The original outlet at ION Orchard is known for its high quality ingredients and authentic traditional recipes. Decorated in a simple, almost zen-like interior, the restaurant had a welcoming atmosphere and has an extensive menu.

During lunch, Nara Thai offers some set lunch deals to attract the office crowd working in this area.  Today we tried out two of these.

The basil chicken set lunch ($13.90) was a platter of chicken fried with basil, together with rice, fried egg and cucumber (the presentation reminded us of nasi lemak). This was accompanied by a bowl of tom yam soup with prawns. The soup was very delicious and had a good balance of spiciness and sourness.  The basil chicken was also well cooked with a strong taste of the basil. We also enjoyed the red curry pork ($14.90) which came with rice, mango salad and larb tord (fried pork balls).

Overall, this was an enjoyable lunch. We look forward to returning another time to sample the items in the a la carte menu.
