Kimchi Korean Restaurant is located at the 2nd level of the revamped Suntec City Convention Mall. It has bright and spacious interior. There are tables with barbeque grills, a bar area, private rooms as well as conventional dining area. Hunky young waiters in tight t-shirts may also make the place more inviting to some.
The Executive Chef, Choi Ming Chul, has experience in Ritz Carlton (South Korea and USA) and Marina Bay Sands Singapore. He helms a team which includes mainly Korean cooks and chefs. The menu is quite extensive and includes a variety of classic Korean favorites as well as unique specialties seldom seen in other Korean restaurants in Singapore. Interesting items on the menu include Sweet Potato Matang, Spicy Pork Bulgogi, Braised Spicy Chicken, Bulgogi Beef Dolsot Bap, Oyster Seafood Dolsot Bap, Marinated Wagyu Beef Short Ribs and Bean-curd Kimchi. Something they do differently is they do not serve you the array of side dishes. You have to order them at $1 per side dish.
We ordered the Seafood DoenJang Soup ($10.80), which is served with rice, and the Chix Gui ($18) – barbequed chicken with special sauce. They were carefully prepared and served together piping hot. They looked good and were delicious. Both were quite spicy. The ice cream, with freeze dried fruit slices, was a nice refreshing round off.
We will like to return to Kimchi to try their other interesting dishes which are priced reasonably.
Average price per person for lunch– $24.
