Jones the Grocer @ Ion Orchard (Outlet Closed)

Is it a grocer, bakery, patisserie, fromagerie, bar, cafe or restaurant? Jones the Grocer tries to be all of the above; and at Ion Orchard, they even have an outdoor dining area. They carry a wide range of foods including cheese, wine, specialty coffees and teas as well as gifts & hampers. We think it is simply a good place for brunch.

The interior design is modern upscale chic. It is starkly different from the many cafes with bare concrete floors and minimalist industrial theme. In fact, the look of the outlet at Ion Orchard is very different from the original Jones the Grocer at Dempsey Hill. Designed by leading international interior architects, the Ion Orchard store reflects the aspirational branding associated with the new investor of Jones the Grocer, L Capital Asia (the Asian Private Equity arm of LVMH Moët Hennessy).

Breakfast is served all day. The breakfast menu offers eggs, waffles, pancakes, salads and sandwiches. Lunch menu is available from 12 noon.

We felt hungry and ordered the Jones big breakfast, corn fritters, granola with fresh fruits and Spanish eggs. The big breakfast, with pork sausage, bacon, two eggs, mushrooms, roast tomato, spinach &  toast, was really big and can be shared by two. The corn pancakes with poached egg were a rather unusual dish but it tasted good. The granola was refreshing and delightful.

We had to wait a bit for the Spanish baked eggs – eggs cracked over a tomato based spicy sauce with slices of Spanish sausages. It was quite delicious.

The prices are not low but, on the whole, it is a nice place to go for brunch.
