Walking into Otto Locanda at Maxwell Chambers from the bustling streets around Tanjong Pagar station is like stepping into a different world. The Tanjong Pagar-Maxwell area is generally very busy with lots of people rushing about as it is at the intersection of Anson Road-Shenton Way commercial areas. Otto Locanda is an Italian-style informal eating establishment and it is like an oasis of calm old world charm. There is a relaxing homely feel to the place with predominantly wood furnishing. There are interesting shelves lined with vintage items, olive oil containers, books and tableware. There is also an intimate bar area.
At lunchtime, it offers a set menu at $32; add $7 if you like a glass of house wine. The set lunch comprises a starter, a main course and desert. There is a choice of salad or soup, one of three mains and either pastry or ice cream. The set menu changes from time to time, so you can go there for the set lunch quite often and yet try different dishes.
We had the Oven Baked Meat Loaf and the Pan Seared Norwegian Salmon Fillet for the mains. Both came in good portion size and were excellent. The meat loaf was moist and tasty; and the fish was succulent and has a delicate flavour. The deserts were prettily presented and were simply delightful.
The waiting staff were professional, efficient and friendly. The busy executives there for a quick lunch or tais tais with time on their hands were all kept happy with efficient, attentive service.
We had a great experience there and thought that the $32++ set lunch was excellent and good value. If you like to have an Italian lunch in a laid back charming setting when you are in Tanjong Pagar or Shenton Way, Otto Locanda is a highly recommended place.
