The Rotisserie is a self service restaurant which has four outlets in Singapore. We checked out the one at China Square.
Probably designed to cater to the busy lunchtime crowd of Raffles Place, the ordering procedure at the Rotisserie is direct and efficient. Upon entering the restaurant you are greeted by two smiling cashiers behind the counter. You read the menu displayed overhead, order and pay. The items that are immediately ready are picked up straightaway. You are given a buzzer which sounds when the other items are ready. We ordered a quarter roast chicken with vegetables ($12) and a soup/salad/panini combination ($12). The restaurant was large and spacious with the full-glass walls letting in a lot of natural light.
The roast chicken was an item that was ready straightaway and was collected from the service counter next to the cashier. The chicken came with your choice of three vegetables. We selected the corn, peas and cauliflower.
Both the chicken and vegetables came in substantial portions. We rather enjoyed the peas and the corn as they were not overcooked and still had some crunch and sweetness in them. Dining in a restaurant called the Rotisserie, we naturally had high expectations of the roast chicken. Perhaps they were a bit too high. We found the chicken to be soft and overcooked. The predominant taste was the sauce.
For the soup/salad/panini combo you get the soup of the day and a choice of salad and panini. The soup of the day was bacon and vegetable soup which was rich and hearty. We chose the fruit and brown rice salad. We would have preferred more fruit in the rice. We liked the classic panini which contained chicken, cheese and lettuce. The panini was toasted to perfection, crisp on the outside and moist inside.
The Rotisserie is a restaurant that will appeal to the busy working people in the area. You can get a satisfying lunch at a reasonable price. More importantly, when time is money, you can grab a quick lunch within 20 minutes if you go for something that is immediately ready like their roast chicken. Taste-wise we were less than impressed, but we appreciate that sometimes some things may have to be sacrificed at the altar of efficiency.
