Basil Thai Kitchen is a casual Thai restaurant in Kallang Wave Mall (Singapore Sports Hub). The newly opened eatery is run by ThaiExpress, a member of the Minor Food Group.
The interior decor is quite different from the the usual ThaiExpress outlets, and understandably has basil leaves as a key design element in a clean modern look. Get a table right inside and you can have a fantastic view of the Kallang Basin and the city skyline.
The menu is similar to the ThaiExpress menu but more limited. Basil Thai Kitchen’s main concentration appears to be one dish noodle/rice meals – probably to cater for the those needing a quick meal when attending events at the Sports Hub. There is a variety of phad thai, noodle soup and fried rice from $10.90 to $13.90 per dish. The common Thai appetizers, salads and curries are available.
We ordered the Signature Basil Chicken Wings ($8.90), Thai Fish Cakes ($7.90) and the “mandatory” Green Chicken Curry with rice ($10.90). We wanted to order desserts but were disappointed that the lod chong, chendol and red ruby were all not yet available, though tempting photos of those items were on the menu.
The food was served promptly. The chicken wings were very good. They were perfectly fried – golden brown crispy coating with well cooked but tender meat inside. You can savour the delightful mix of spices and sweetness with each bite.
Each piece of fish cake was quite large and looked scrumptious. However, the fish cakes lacked texture and firmness and we did not like the soft inside.
The green curry was excellent though it was not as spicy as expected. The curry sauce was quite thick and was sweetish.
It is one of those places that do not serve plain ice water; though it must be said that their bottled water is priced at only $1.80. Overall, the service at Basil Thai Kitchen was quite good. The pricing is reasonable.
It is a nice restaurant to go to if you want a quick and simple Thai meal.

I was just there over the weekend! Found their basil chicken extremely spicy. Yikes.
Guess they are new and thus the quality is not consistent. We found the chicken wings spicy but the curry to be not spicy enough.
