Sogurt is a brand of frozen yogurt set up by a young Singapore entrepreneur who had apparently thought of the idea while she was studying overseas. For a project that started with a tiny shop at Bukit TImah (I believe), it has indeed come very far, and there are now six shops across Singapore. We tried out their outlet in the Buona Vista area, Sogurt Star Vista.
The feminine touch is obvious from the generous use of pink and the girly decorative elements, which makes the atmosphere pleasing because it is so light-hearted. This is a self-service establishment. Just grab one of the tubs available. Go to the ATM-like yogurt vending machines, choose the flavours that you like, then go to the toppings area and sprinkle whatever you want on your yogurt. Your creation is then weighed at the cashier and you are charged according to the weight of your selection. For some first-time customers this might come as a shock if they had thought there is a fixed price for whatever they can fit into the tub! We were novices and approached the staff to help with the machines – which explains why the yogurt was so beautifully formed.
We selected the lychee, mixed berries and strawberry flavours plus a topping of chocolate chip. The whole ensemble you see above was weighed and we were charged $8.80. The flavours were all clean and realistic i.e. tasting like the real fruits without any artificial or chemical after-taste. The yogurt was light and refreshing. While this dessert is not inexpensive, you can exercise cost-control by careful use of the machine and judicious selection of the toppings. Our creation was sufficient to be shared by two. We certainly recommend this dessert for its pleasant taste and the fact that it does not leave you with a heavy feeling (which some desserts tend to).
