Soup Stock Tokyo is a stylish kiosk serving tasty soups (with no MSG), porridge and curry rice. Soup Stock Tokyo has more than 70 outlets in Japan and its second overseas outlet is at 100 AM, the mall at Amara Hotel, Singapore.
The store uses chestnut tree wood for a modern minimalist Japanese cafe look. Simple contemporary tall bowls and wooden trays are used to serve food as well as to enhance the aesthetics of the small store. Everything is well layout. A drinking water station, with glasses and trays, are placed near the cashier.
The menu is quite simple. There is a selection of soups from a bank of about 200 original recipes; with changes of soups every week. There are plain rice, bread, a limited selection of porridge and curry rice which can be bought separately on in a variety of combinations. A standard soup set (350 cc soup + rice or bread) is $10.80 and a double soup set (2 x 180 cc soup + rice or bread) is $11.80. Tea and fruit juices can be added to the set with a $1.00 top up.
For a quick dinner, we tried their Butter Chicken Curry & Rice ($12.80 + $1.00 for ice tea) and the Dried Scallop Porridge ( $8.80). The food was served within a few minutes of ordering and paying at the counter. Both the curry rice and porridge were tasty and satisfying. The chicken curry was comparable to those at more expensive Japanese restaurants.
The staff was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. As we were leaving, a native Japanese staff came to the exit to thank us and to tell us about their new product – Packed Frozen Take-Home Soup.
Soup Stock Tokyo is a place that somehow makes you feel comfortable and gratified. We are happy to have found this place serendipitously. We will definitely like to try their soup in future visits.
