Eastpoint Mall @ Simei Re-opens: More Food & Beverage Options

Eastpoint Mall Simei

(Updated on 24 January 2015) Eastpoint Mall in Simei had been given a major makeover. The 6 storey mall, which is owned by NTUC Income Insurance Co-operative and managed by Frasers Centrepoint, looks modern and fresh. The mall is right next to the Simei MRT Station and  there is a bus-stop and taxi stand right in front – all connected by covered walkways. Shoppers can enjoy free Wi-Fi access with Wireless SG.

Good news for Simei residents is that an extra 12 per cent of space is being dedicated to food and beverage areas in the refurbished Eastpoint Mall. Interesting new outlets will include Korean porridge chain Juk Story and Four Leaves Cafe. Eighteen Chefs, Hanis Cafe, Penang Street, The Royals Cafe, Saizeriya, Kura Osaka Osho, Paradise Inn, Siam Kitchen and Shabu Sai are a few of the more familiar names that will be there. A large food court by Food Junction is on level 4.

Almost all the food outlets are now in business. McDonald’s, with its standalone building, is one of the last to open. Starbucks and Tiong Bahru Jian Bo Shui Kueh have also opened up at Eastpoint Mall.

We checked out the restaurants and food & beverage outlets at the mall. We have to say that we are impressed by the range and type of choices made available. What is particularly outstanding is that the outlets, familiar and new, have been put together to cater for the ordinary patron.

McDonald’s & McCafe open for business at Eastpoint Mall on Saturday, 24 January 2015. It operates from 6 am to 12 midnight.

Eighteen Chefs – with the vision of helping troubled youths and people with conviction backgrounds find alternative positive ways to reintegrate back into society – is one of the restaurants that has started business. In fact it is drawing in the crowds. Their unique menu setup allows patrons to customize some of their dishes.

Another restaurant that stood out was Heavenly Wang.  We like the old world charm, cozy atmosphere and the reasonable prices for local food like mee soto, mee siam and the usual coffee shop fare. Heavenly Wang also retails some old-fashioned food items which we are sure will bring back some good memories.

Four Leaves Cafe. The bakery that we are familiar with now has a cafe for dining in next to the retail section. It looks like a very pleasant place to have a coffee with one of their an-pans. Their drinks are reasonably priced.

85 Redhill Teochew Fishball Noodles. Finally, this well-loved local dish gets its own speciality restaurant. We love the loud red decor (we suppose red is always associated with the Teochews 😉 ) and the food looks very enticing. It is already one of the more popular food outlets here at Eastpoint Mall. In case you can’t see the prices on the signboard, the noodles are mostly about $5 each.

OKG Express serves Old Kim Guan home cooked style local food at what seems to be very reasonable prices e.g. curry chicken at $5 and Pig stomach soup at $4.80!

The Royals is a cafe that looks regally English at first glance but on closer observation, promises a nice mix of the east and the West. The menu is interesting and ranges from pulled beef brisket ($10.50) to nasi lemak with ayam masak merah ($8.90). We are told by the super friendly and enthusiastic staff that they strongly recommend their cakes, in particular the rainbow cake. The food certainly looks delicious. This will definitely be our stopover the next time we are here.

No mall will be complete without a food court, in this case Food Junction. To their credit, they are trying to make the ubiquitous food court more interesting. Here they have set up stalls such as Mr Prata and Roti Junction to make our mealtime more exciting.

Judging by the crowd, the revamped Eastpoint Mall is popular. The range of food options is certainly wide and varied. If it gets too crowded for your liking there are plenty of alternatives within walking distance from the mall; or take a short trip to nearby East Village where there are also interesting food options in a much more tranquil setting.

  1. It will be nice to indicate whether the food is halal-certified.
This can attract patrons who have Muslim friends and they can enjoy food together at a place.
Great job on the navigation! Thanks!

  2. Congrats on the re-opening of Eastpoint Mall. I like the many F&B outlets there. I don’t see Starbucks in the list, or have I missed it somewhere?

    1. Thanks for your comment. Yes, it would seem that Eastpoint Mall is one of the few new malls without a Starbucks. There are many other coffee outlets in the Mall though, and there is always Grasso Coffee at #01-132Blk 248 Simei Street 3 just next to the Mall. There is a Starbucks down the road at 2 Simei Street 3, Level 1 Main Atrium, Changi General Hospital.

  3. was there yest with my kids having lunch at the food republic… had a shock on the price of a cup of ice milo and chicken rice… $2.20 & $5.50 respectively.
it is definitely cheaper to go to a fast-food joint! really ridiculous! wldnt dare go there again…

  4. Came here for lunch. Very disappointed with bad attitude of the staff of Mr Prata. Not interested in taking the order. Quality poor and food cold.

Leave a comment. It will mean a great deal to us.
