Chabuton Ramen and 1855 The Bottle Shop – new tenants at Star Vista

Star Vista1

During our recent visit to Star Vista, we noticed that two new tenants, Chabuton, the ramen restaurant, and 1855 Bottle Shop, the wines and spirits retailer, have just set up shop. The generous bouquets of flowers from well-wishers brightened up the first level of the mall. We believe that this mall probably has the highest percentage of f & b tenants of any mall in Singapore. With these two recent additions, the Star Vista is really distinguishing itself as the place to go if you can’t decide where to eat in Buona Vista.

As you can see, the 1855 Bottle Shop at Star Vista occupies a spacious and brightly lit space. Shelves full of wine from all over the world line the perimeter of the shop. Bottles bought here can be consumed straight on the premises where simple black tables and seating are provided. This seems like a good place to sample new and unfamiliar wines before you commit to buying more bottles. Only alcoholic beverages are sold here, no food. To me, unless the occasion is purely for tasting, drinking wine without food is like spending Valentine’s day alone. Fortunately, the folks at 1855 have a solution to this. I was told that patrons can purchase food from nearby outlets and bring the food here to go with the wine, with the proviso that people have to be reasonable about this (e.g, no strong smells please). This sounds like a sensible policy. At the time of my visit, there were some discounts in celebration of their opening and also on account of the coming year-end festivities.  So if you want to check them out, now seems like a good time.

The other shop which had big floral arrangements indicating their recent opening was Chabuton.  We believe that this is Chabuton’s third outlet in Singapore (the others are in 313 Orchard and Tampines 1). Chabuton ramen restaurant originates from Japan and the chef is apparently the first ramen chef to receive a Michelin star!  We did not have the chance to try their ramen during this visit but will certainly try it out soon. For now, the best we can do is to show you pictures of their plastic mock-ups of their ramen. I believe they have taken over the space previously occupied by another ramen shop.  It is on the street level and easily accessible from the taxi stand.
