Frankel Estate is one of the few remaining areas in Singapore where no high rise apartments or flats can be seen. The low density residential area boasts a high concentration of cafes. There may be more bakeries and cafes in Frankel Avenue and Siglap Drive than many average shopping malls.
The old favourite Cedele has been joined by new hip cafes in Frankel Avenue like Dutch Colony Coffee Co. There is no lack of options whether you want some sweet desserts or savoury light bites or when you just want a cup of coffee or tea or something stronger. There are places open as early as 7.30 am and more than a few stay open till 10 pm.
Here is a list of cafes in Frankel Estate we like.

The Berry Berries (the signature strawberry shortcake) at $6.40 was light and delectable. Tea is priced at $8 per pot. A cup of Japanese green tea is $4.50 and Cappuccino is $6.

Great atmosphere and great coffee. Eggs, cakes, pastries and open-faced sandwiches are available Dutch Colony Coffee Co. In spite of its name, they offer a good range of tea as well. We really like this place.

This bakery cafe in Frankel Avenue started as Bakery Depot, before Cedele was conceived. It was essentially a bakery. Now known as Cedele by Bakery Depot, loyal customers still to go there just to buy bread. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Cedele offers a wide range of freshly made breads, sandwiches, soups, salads and cakes.
Latte and cappuccino are priced at $4.50 for the small size. Special sets of sandwiches & soup or sandwiches & salad are available from $11.50 to $14.50.
The good news about car parking along Frankel Avenue and Siglap Drive is that free street parking is available. The bad news is that slots are extremely limited. The nearest MRT station to the Frankel Estate is the Kembangan Station but it is quite a long walk from the station to the cafes. The most sensible transport options will be bus number 32 to Frankel Avenue or bus number 42 (loop service from Kembagan Station) to Siglap drive.
