尚苑 My Dining Room Hong Kong Cantonese Cuisine (Closed)

尚苑 My Dining Room

尚苑 My Dining Room Hong Kong Cantonese Cuisine is a new Chinese restaurant that has just opened on the second level of Suntec City Mall. We were drawn to the restaurant by its attractive front entrance area with a mix of colours and textures in the interior design. The restaurant has an extensive menu and the dim sum items we tried were good.

The interior design is different from that of a typical Chinese restaurant. At the front lounge area, there is a bar on one side and wine cabinets on the opposite side. There is an impressive wooden lattice on the ceiling. Walk down the long corridor from the entrance and you will enter the main dining hall which is quite large. Rustic wood panels are used on the wall and you can see the chefs working in the kitchen. The furnishing in the dining hall is like what you will find in many contemporary Chinese restaurants, but not as impressive as the entrance lounge. There are booth seats and VIP rooms.

My Dining Room at Suntec City serves mainly Cantonese food. They have an extensive a la carte menu, dim sum menu and special sets. It is interesting that they offer set menu for one ranging from $48 to $138. Random photos of menu boards and a page from the menu are added below to give an rough idea of the items offered and the prices.

We chose from the dim sum menu which had all the standard items. We had the deep fried bean curd skin with prawns ($6), the steamed dumplings ($5.20) and the baked char siew bun ($6). The bean curd skin was very crispy and not oily. The steamed dumplings also had very well made think skin. The outstanding item was the baked char siew bun. The barbequed pork was juicy with a good sweet savoury combination and encrusted in a nicely baked soft bun. It was as good as those we have tried in popular restaurants in Hong Kong.

We had the mini egg tarts ($5.20) which were really quite small. The presentation, or lack of it, was a little disappointing. The taste was what you would expect with puff pastry that was flaky and crispy.

Chinese tea was $2.80 and we were pleasantly surprised that they did not charge for the plate of peanuts and the wet wipes which were automatically placed on the table. The service staff was attentive and efficient. The greetings as we walked into the restaurant and as we were leaving were quite enthusiastic and profuse.

Our expectations of My Dining Room at Suntec City Mall were raised by the rather impressive shop front. We were, thus, a little disappointed that the interior decorations in the main dining hall and the food presentation were very average. However, if expectations are managed, My Dining Room is quite a nice Chinese restaurant and the dim sum items are good. We would return to try other items on their menu.

  1. Wow! This restaurant is really chic and fancy! And yes, I love its attractive front entrance area, seem like a great restaurant for romantic dinner dates LOL. Hopefully this year I can go back to Hong Kong to try this restaurant especially their dessert recipes there!

Leave a comment. It will mean a great deal to us.
