Design your own burgers at Roadhouse – a modern American diner at Dempsey (Closed)
Part of the Prive Group, Roadhouse is an American diner styled restaurant in Dempsey. It is housed at the end of a block that mainly houses furniture stores and other non-F&B outlets. So it is a bit hard to find but its seclusion means you don’t have to jostle for parking lots with patrons at the other restaurants.
There were not many other diners there when we went there for lunch recently on a weekday. The meat dishes, including the burgers are cooked with a Josper Grill, a kind of combination charcoal grill and oven, which enables the inside of the meat to be cooked with a charring of the exterior at the same time.
The star attractions at Roadhouse are the burgers. Here you can design your burger by specifying your own contents of the burger. If that is too troublesome you ca pick one of several standard burgers on the menu which range from $24 to $33. At lunch time, there is a lunchtime combo whereby you can have a sandwich or burger plus a starter or a dessert. You can choose to BYOB – build your own burger – by selecting your type of patty and your choice of toppings (up to $6).
We tried the lunch combo and opted for salads and BYOB burgers. Most of the toppings cost either $1 or $2 each, so the ‘budget’ of $6 for toppings meant you would have a decent burger with three or four toppings. We were curious to find out how the Josper Grilled burger patties would fare. As you can see, the burgers and onion rings looked lovely. The onion rings ($1) were crisp on the outside and juicy inside. You can taste the succulent onion content inside. We think this is a must try item here at Roadhouse. The burgers looked very attractive with their golden brown colour and sesame seeds. Taste-wise we would say this was really good. The vegetables inserted between the buns were fresh and crunchy. Most importantly, the meat patties had a good balance of oiliness and were cooked just as we liked.
We seem to be having a lot of burger meals recently and this is certainly one of the best. We would rate it to be equal or slightly better than the Honest burgers we tried in London recently (read our review here). We will certainly return, particularly during lunch for the BYOB combo and to enjoy the laid back atmosphere of this American diner at Dempsey.
