吃在台北 eat at Taipei in Singapore Sports Hub

eat at Taipei

Taipei is well known for its night market and street food. 吃在台北 eat at Taipei gives us a chance to savour Taiwanese street food and snacks in Singapore. It has several outlets in Singapore and a new one opened in Kallang Wave, Singapore Sports Hub earlier this year. The Kallang Wave outlet is quite attractively decorated with many colourful signs. We think it is quite a good place for a simple casual meal.

吃在台北 eat at Taipei has an extensive menu to reflect the wide variety of snacks and street food popular in Taiwan. There are Hot & Cold Desserts, Soups, Snacks, Stir Fried Dishes, Noodles, Rice Box and even Baked Rice and Udon Noodles.

We ordered the “must try” Nantou Taiwanese–style Braised Minced Pork Rice at the promotion price of $9.50 (usual price $10.50). We also ordered the Rao He Spicy Taiwanese Braised Beef Noodles (usual price $13.50) and Tainan Vermicelli in Sesame Oil Chicken Soup (usual price $10.50). There is currently a OCBC card promotion – all noodles are at the special price of only $8.90++ if you use a OCBC credit card to pay the bill.

The service was efficient. We were shown to our table promptly and the food was served within a few minutes of placing our order.

The Braised Minced Pork Rice came well presented. The extra ingredient of pork floss was a nice touch. The meat was chunky and not minced but it was well braised. It was not too sweet. The dish was quite enjoyable.

The Braised Beef Noodles cane with a very generous portion of beef slices. The meat was tender and the noodles were nicely cooked to retain a nice texture. The stock was flavourful but we thought it was too salty.

The Sesame Oil Chicken Soup Vermicell did not look very appetising but it was aromatic and quite tasty. It is simple comfort food – something you can eat again and again.

The prices of desserts and drinks at eat at Taipei were slightly on the high side. The Snow Ice desserts are priced at $8.90. We had a refreshing Iced Honey Lemon drink for $4.50. Considering that we were paying $8.90 for noodles with a generous portion of meat, $4.50 for a drink seemed quite high. They also offer the popular Iced Pearl Milk Tea at $4 and mineral water at $2.50 per bottle. However, if you just stick to hot Chinese tea was, it would be $1.50 per person.

They have promotions where you can get good value lunch sets and tea time treats. For example, you can get a weekday lunch set of the Braised Minced Pork Rice plus a dessert for only $10.90.

On the whole we think that for a quick casual meal, 吃在台北 eat at Taipei is a good option, whether you are eating alone or with a group. It offers a comfortable and pleasant setting and has an extensive menu. The food items are generally fairly priced. Taste-wise, the dishes are of acceptable standard.
