Raj Restaurant seems to be a popular Indian vegetarian restaurant at Biopolis. Since we started our recent visits to find explore the food outlets at Biopolis in Buona VIsta, we had noticed that it is one of the more busy restaurants in this location.
There are many restaurants in the Biopolis area. Most of them cater mainly to the office crowd here and are shut in the evenings or the weekend or even both. But not Raj Restaurant Biopolis. They are currently open at night and even on weekends.
There are both indoor and outdoor seating areas. The interior is decorated simply and efficiently. The menu was more extensive than expected. There was a large selection of curries, naans and dosais. Here are some pages from the Raj Restaurant menu.
One of us had a sore throat that day and so we had to avoid the spicy items. We ordered a Vegetable Makhanwalla ($9), a Special Mysore Masala Dosai ($6) and a tandoori Roti ($2).
The Vegetable Makhanwalla was a dish of diced vegetables cooked in a tomato base gravy. The tandoori roti is a type of flat bread baked in the tandoori oven. The gravy served as a dip to eat the tandoori roti with. A nice and simple combination, particularly for those who prefer a non-spicy dish.
The Mysore Masala Dosai is made of a huge paper-thin dosai folded into a triangle. Inside the triangle were fillings of mashed potato and vegetables. It was like a giant samosa. Some sauces were provided for dipping. We liked it even without any sauce. At $6 for this giant samosa, it is a good value for money meal.
All in all, having an Indian vegetarian meal is not something we do often. To be honest, we missed the texture and flavour of lamb rogan josh or butter chicken. But it is interesting once in a while to try new experiences. One good thing about a vegetarian meal is that we did not have a heavy feeling after the meal. We would want to return again to try their spicy items.
