A restaurant with a great view set amidst lush greenery at the top of Mount Faber is an experiential dining destination. Spuds & Aprons restaurant at Faber Peak Singapore is where you can get a stunning view of the sunset, the exciting lights of Sentosa Island and cruise ships as well as the calming smooth movement of cable cars. The casual restaurant has a kids menu and is family friendly. It also has an impressive bar and can be an ideal destination for a romantic evening.
Spuds & Aprons restaurant at Faber Peak has an outdoor dining area and an indoor air-conditioned dining hall. The outdoor area called The Garden has 2 sections. The sheltered all weather section allows patrons to enjoy the feel of balcony dining and the breeze. There is also an al fresco section where you can dine under the stars. The koi pond and the Bells of Happiness in The Garden would appear to be very popular with the children and quite a few adults too.
With a name like Spuds & Aprons you would expect potatoes to dominate the menu. Although the menu is not extensive, there is adequate variety. You can find salads, pasta, chicken, fish and meats prepared in Asian and Western styles. A reasonably priced deal is the Spuds Devilish Combo for 2 to 6 – where you can choose your combination of starter, main and dessert. There is complimentary valet parking with the combo(ask the restaurant to stamp on your valet parking ticket).
For the starters we tried their Crispy Fish Skin, served with seaweed, enoki mushroom & garden greens with sesame yoghurt dressing. The best part was the fish skin which was, well, really crispy and quite delicious. The other starter was the Crab in Tux. It was chilli crab in potato skin jackets. It was enjoyable.
For the mains, we had the baby back ribs in homemade barbecue sauce; Pan roasted salmon fillet & asparagus; and Oven-Roasted Mustard Marinated Chicken. They came attractively presented. All the mains came with potatoes, whether in the form of fries or mashed. The portion size was quite generous. Taste wise, the mains were fairly average – not bad but nothing to rave about.
We also ordered the Tobiko Cod fillet ($32) from the ala carte menu. The Atlantic cod fillet was oven-roasted and topped with tobiko & served with green tea soba noodles and ponzu sauce. The combination of flavours was interesting and it was quite a tasty dish.
The best part of the meal was desserts time. We tried the Jar of Happiness – Shortbread Biscuits with Almond Flakes, Mixed Berries, Vanilla Ice Cream, topped with Warm Berry Compote; and the Chempedak Bread & Pudding – croissants & chempedak filling served with vanilla ice cream. Both were great and definitely brought us plenty of happiness. We would recommend that you try either or both the desserts.
Spuds & Aprons Restaurant at Mount Faber is definitely an interesting dining option. It ticks all the right boxes for us. The food is fine if you are not expecting gourmet dining and the desserts are great. Courteous and attentive service staff, pleasant comfortable dining space, fair value pricing, free Wifi and free iced water. If you consider cable car as a means of transport than this restaurant at Mount Faber can be considered easily accessible by public transport – it is right next to the cable car station. If you drive, valet parking is available at $6. Spuds & Aprons in an atmospheric location can be a good place to head to whether you are taking the family out or showing overseas friends the sights or taking someone special to the lookout point.
