Sunrise Bistro & Bar at Big Splash (Closed)

Sunrise Bistro & Bar

Sunrise Bistro & Bar at Big Splash is a nice spot in East Coast Park for drinks. It is also a sports bar and offers good food too. When considering what to eat at East Coast Park, Sunrise Bistro & Bar offers an interesting option. Helmed by its co-founder and chef, Vincent Teng, Sunrise Bistro & Bar offers casual French fare with a fine blend of Asian flavors.

Sunrise Bistro & Bar

We always thought of Sunrise Bistro & Bar at Big Splash as sort of a beach bar or sports bar. You can have drinks and catch live sports programme on their TV screens. There is a “veranda area” with a laid back atmosphere and an air-conditioned indoor area. The indoor area is quite spacious. The decor is contemporary – fairly simple and neat.

We wanted something quick and simple for dinner. We went to Sunrise Bistro & Bar at East Coast Park with rather low expectations thinking we would have pub food like pies and burgers. We were pleasantly surprised to find that their menu offered quite a good selection of starters and mains that you would normally find in modern trendy restaurants. Sous Vide Egg Benedict, Asian 5 Spice Duck Confit, Baked Live Boston Lobster and Salted Egg Yolk Custard Molten Chocolate Cake are a few of the interesting items on the menu.

Sunrise Bistro & Bar Pasta

We ordered the Mushroom & Truffle Fettuccine ($20) and the Marmite Canadian Pork Shoulder ($26). The waiting time for our food was the usual 10 to 15 minutes. The food came attractively presented. The service portions were quite generous.

The fettuccine with mixed mushrooms and truffle cream sauce was excellent. The sauce was light and the pasta was perfectly cooked. The poached egg was a visually nice topping but also gave the dish an added dimension. On the whole, the pasta dish had a rich earthy flavour and was delicious.

Sunrise Bistro & Bar Pork Shoulder

The choice of the pork shoulder dish also turned out to be a good one. Two pieces of grilled pork sat on a bed of mashed potatoes. The meat looked like beef steak but tasted more like char siew. The pork was well marinated with Marmite and, we guessed, was coated with honey before being grilled. There was a thin nicely browned crust while the meat inside remained moist. The mix  of the crusted outer meat with the inner meat produced varying textures and flavours. The dish was satisfying and delightful.

The portions of the mains were large and so we did not have room for desserts. They have an interesting range of desserts

Bistro & Bar Big Splash

The service was good and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. It has an interesting menu and the food was much better than we had expected. We will return to Sunrise Bistro & Bar at Big Splash for their food and also to try their desserts. If added incentive is needed, they have Happy Hour promotions for different day of the week.
