The Workshop Element Cafe, or W.E. Cafe, is a newly opened cafe at Suntec City. It takes up an open concept space on the second level near Suntec Tower Two. We were attracted to the W.E. Cafe by its $10.90 set lunch and its user-friendly space. It was just off the pedestrian flow and a good place to people watch.
The W.E. Cafe is simply decorated with the now popular soft-industrial style. Those with more time to kill can take up residence on one of the comfy-looking armchairs. The more athletic type can balance on the unicycle stools.
The W.E. Cafe offers gelato and the usual beverages. A latte is $5.30 and a pot of tea is $6.90. Light bites like nachos and baked chicken wings are available. Brunch items like omelette and waffles are on its menu. For a full meal, you can have soup and salad and sandwiches like quail egg sandwich, teriyaki chicken sandwich and prawn & fish roe sandwich.
Workshop Element Cafe’s set lunch offers two choices – Satay pork spaghetti or salmon sandwich. We opted for the former. The set lunch starts with a soup. The cream of corn soup looked rather bland but was quite tasty.
We had imagined the satay pork spaghetti to be an evolved version of our local hawker style of satay bee hoon but somehow the satay sauce did not combine quite well with the pasta. The satay sauce did taste like the sauce for satay although we found it a tad sweet. The pork was tender and was quite delicious. The spaghetti was also nicely cooked. However, all the elements did not combine well to make the dish something we would look forward to.
All in all, lunch at W.E. Cafe was a simple fuss free experience. We would not come to this restaurant for a gourmet meal but as a quick lunch stop in a pleasant environment, it was not a bad choice. It would also be a nice place for a cup of coffee or ice cream.
