Prive Grill Restaurant Week 2015 dinner

Prive Grill restaurant week - 1

We braved the almost 200 PSI haze to attend the Prive Grill restaurant week 2015 dinner that we had signed up for. It is located at Marina at Keppel Bay on the tiny Keppel Island next to Sentosa. This island is accessible by an attractive bridge and houses the marina and several restaurants. The haze added a mystical mood to the marina area and made it look eerie but strangely attractive from some angles.

The Prive group runs  two restaurants at the Marina at Keppel Bay – the more casual Prive Cafe and the Prive Grill. The dining room of the restaurant itself is quite ordinary but it is located in a beautiful location. There are indoor and outdoor seating areas. If there was no haze, the alfresco area overlooking the marina and the bridge would be quite a romantic place to dine in or have drinks.

During restaurant week in October 2015, Prive Grill serves a three course menu for $35 per pax. There were two options for each course, which made ordering very easy. Since there were two of us,  we just ordered every item on the menu. Here is the Prive Grill restaurant week 2015 menu and the regular menu.

The starters were poached Irish oysters and beef consommé with ravioli. The poached oysters were served at room temperature. They tasted like they were only slightly cooked. We did not like this neither hot nor cold style of oyster. Oysters should be totally fresh and cold or totally cooked and hot (like oh luak).

The beef consommé was much better. The soup had a rich beef taste and the truffled beef cheek ravioli was very good. The only let-down was that the soup was only slightly warm. Make it hotter and it would be much better. This restaurant week thingy seems like a big success. The place was fully booked and the staff were all overworked, but to their credit, the frontline staff maintained their composure well.

Next were the main courses. The lobster tail served on a bed of risotto and duck liver was very good. Full-bodied taste of seafood and the liver, but the lobster tail was very small. The beef dish was more substantial. The outer layer of the meat was very charred which gave it a very nice taste and texture (like char siew)  but probably not very good for health!

Finally, it was time for dessert. The warm chocolate and peanut butter fondant was very good. The peanut butter and chocolate taste very well together. The banoffee pie was quite ordinary.

Overall, the Prive Grill restaurant week dinner was quite enjoyable although we can imagine that the dining experience would be much better outside the restaurant week period. If we had to do it again, we would avoid the room temperature oysters and the pale looking pie. Both main courses were good. We thought $35++ for dinner at Prive Grill was quite reasonable.

We noticed from the Prive website that there is a romantic dinner package at $82 per person that seems quite interesting. They will also arrange flowers upon request (6 stalks at $35 onwards).
