Ô Batignolles is a French bistro located at the corner of Club Street and Gemmill Lane. It is a cosy place in a good location as the large parking lot is right in front of it and the Telok Ayer MRT station  is only a few minutes walk away. We stopped by for brunch on a sunny Singapore morning there recently.

Ô Batignolles is not air-conditioned. There are some ceiling fans that keep the place reasonably well ventilated, although we would have preferred some air-conditioning for the indoor sectio. The bistro is cosy and tastefully decorated. The tables were small and set close to each other, just like a Parisian bistro.  The brunch menu was a simple one with the usual breakfast / brunch dishes.

What looked more interesting was their extensive wine list which they have thoughtfully classified by price range. There were also more wine by the glass choices than many other places.

At brunch time, champagne was sold at $10 per glass or $55 per bottle. We opted for the latter. It was an unfamiliar brand of champagne, the name of which I cannot remember. Not the most complex champagne, but the presence of the frosty flutes of the bubbly on the table and the fizz on the palate always enhances a meal on a sunny day.

We had the usual brunch items of Croque Monsieur ($17) and Croque Madame ($19). There were identical except that the Madame had a fried egg on top. They were both huge slices of bread with the melted cheese. Very substantial and filling but quite ordinary.

The Eggs Benedict ($13) was, likewise, a decently prepared version of this breakfast staple but not exceptional.

The Brunch Parisien ($29) was a set brunch menu consisting of  free flow of croissant, a choice of bread and egg dishes plus coffee and orange juice. We decided on the French toast and a Eggs Pacifico.

The croissant was a large one but was soggy. Although there was a free flow of croissants, one was enough. The next item was the French toast. That was a much better dish and the best item of the day.

The Eggs Pacifico was essentially the same as the Eggs Benedict, but with the addition of smoked salmon. A bit more taste because of the salmon but still very unexceptional.

Overall, the food at our Sunday brunch at Ô Batignolles was quite plain. The experience was lifted somewhat by the pleasant atmosphere and the bubbles from the champagne.
