We were at the Bukit Pasoh food precinct and stumbled upon a charming small cafe with a rather interesting name – Open Book Cafe. It is hidden at the back of the Grassroots Book Room, a book shop which carries predominantly Chinese titles. The book shop itself is quite fascinating. Many interesting and colourful books and reading paraphernalia are attractively displayed. Even the ceiling decorations are quite unique. The Open Book Cafe is really like an extension of the charming book store. It is cosy and a perfect spot for a cup of coffee and some reading.

The Open Book Cafe is quite small and can accommodate maybe 16 to 20. Its decor is quite attractive and helps to create a homely feel. There are books on the shelves and beautiful paintings on the walls. A portion of the premises is partitioned off for the in house bakery.

The menu is written on the chalkboard in both Chinese and English. Essentially, they offer coffee and tea plus bread, pastries and cakes. They also have house made jam for sale.

Place the order at the counter and the food and drinks will be served to your table. No GST or service charge will be added to the bill. You can help yourself to water from the water station.

Open Book Cafe Singapore

We already had quite a sumptuous lunch and went into Grassroots Book Room to look at their interesting wares and to see if we could pick up presents for Christmas. So when we went to the Open Book Cafe, we just ordered coffee ($4 each) and a special Christmas bread ($3 for 2) from the Open Book Cafe.

The bread was soft and in the centre were raisins and bits of spiced dried fruits. It was quite enjoyable. The coffee was good too. It was aromatic and buttery and had a sharp, pleasant aftertaste.

We are glad to discover to have discovered Open Book Cafe. It is a nice little cosy space for a cup of coffee and tea. The food and beverage offering is rather limited.  In that way too, Open Book Cafe feels like home –  not too many options of food and drinks options but a place you can be easy-going and comfortable.
