The House of Robert Timms, one of Australia’s gourmet coffee brands, has food outlets in Singapore for a few years now. The House of Robert Timms at Wheelock Place is a bar and bistro occupying a prime spot at the junction of Orchard Boulevard and Paterson Road. It is right in the Orchard shopping belt but in a quiet corner and can serve as a nice place of respite from the busy shopping crowd. We had brunch there recently and found the food to be better than we had expected.
The House of Robert Timms Bistro at Wheelock place is quite nicely decorated in contemporary style. The full glass panels let in plenty of natural light. There is an outdoor bar and al fresco dining area. It is easy to feel comfortable and relax at The House of Robert Timms Bistro.
Robert Timms gourmet coffee are of course on the menu, but they also offer dishes like mussels, steaks, pasta, pizzas and burgers.
We went there for brunch and ordered the Robert Timm’s Pancake Stack ($19.50) from the All-Day Breakfast section of the menu and the Robert Timm’s House Sandwich ($21). A long black was $6 and a cappuccino was $7.
The staff were friendly and attentive. Ice water was served on request. A few minutes after our orders were taken, the food was served.
The pancake stack was nicely presented on a wooden board and served with eggs and bacon. It was quite a stack – 6 pancakes in all. The pancakes were good – there was a thin slightly crusty outer layer and the inside was soft and had an airy texture. The pancakes were nice whether eaten with just butter and maple syrup or eaten with the savoury bacon and eggs. The only complaint ( we are Singaporeans after all) was that a stack of 6 pancakes was just too much.
The Robert Timm’s House Sandwich also came in a huge serving portion. It was like a club sandwich but much larger plus salad and fries on the side. The toasted bread with grilled chicken, fried bacon, lettuce and tomato had a good mix of textures and was quite enjoyable.
On the whole we enjoyed our hearty brunch at The House of Robert Timms Bistro at Wheelock Place. Obviously, we had no room for desserts. It was a pity because we had found their cakes and macaroons to be quite good. We had tried them at their outlet at Suntec City on a previous occasion. As you can see from the photos below, the Suntec outlet is beautifully decorated and they have attractive and interesting desserts to offer. The Gourmet Store is next to the cafe in Suntec.
The House of Robert Timms is good option in both Orchard Road and Suntec City, when we are looking for a simple hearty meal or some delectable desserts and coffee.
