While Singapore may be one of the most expensive cities in the world, it is still not difficult to find good food at very fair prices. At the beginning of this new year, we look back at restaurants where we have enjoyed great value meals and look forward to more such great eats in 2016.
Great value will, of course, mean different things to different people. We think we get great value when we feel that the quality and quantity of the food and the service we get are well worth the price of the meal. Here is The Ordinary Patrons’ list of restaurants with great value meals in Singapore.
Dallas @ Suntec City
Dallas Restaurant & Bar @ Suntec City
3 Temasek Boulevard
03-302/303 Suntec City Sky Garden
Dallas Restaurant & Bar is housed in a glass cube on Suntec City Sky Garden. A $28++ two-course lunch with coffee or tea included in a lovely space is a great value for money proposition.
Milagro @ Orchard Central
Milagro Spanish Restaurant
#08-06/07, Orchard Central
181 Orchard Road
Spanish restaurant with a quite wonderful $19.90 (nett) two-course set lunch – with no extra charges for GST, service or water. The food at Milagro can rival those at more fancy ‘high-end’ Spanish restaurants.
Osteria Art @ Raffles Place
55 Market Street
The Power Lunch, a 3 course menu of daily specials, comprising a starter, top quality main course, a slice of cake and coffee is priced at $35++. Sleek elegant decor, comfortable environment, friendly attentive service, appealing food presentation plus good food add up to a very good deal.
Mon Bujou @ Claymore
442 Orchard Road #01-19/20
Mon Bijou cafe serves the usual cafe type of food – but the food taste good, the portions are big and the prices are very reasonable.
FYR Cycene Ond Drinc @ Boon Tat
FYR Cycene Ond Drinc
19 Boon Tat Street
At FYR Cycene Ond Drinc, the prices are not really cheap but we still feel we get good value because of the good quality of the food. Eating a delicious whole Maine lobster ($35++) and spiced deboned red snapper ($25++) can satisfy the palate without hurting the wallet too much.
Chat & Chow @ MacPherson
Chat & Chow
Level 4, ibis Styles Singapore
401 MacPherson Road
A lunch in a restaurant by the pool of a stylish hotel, where cabanas and sun loungers dot a nicely landscaped poolside, at only $12. It is probably the most affordable poolside dining in Singapore.
Marché @ Jurong East
Marché Mövenpick @ Jem
50 Jurong Gateway Road,
Marché Movenpick @ Jem Shopping mall offers very affordable $9.90 lunches which are generally not bad; but on the days that ribeye is on the lunch menu, it may be the best deal you can currently find in Jurong East, if not the whole Singapore.
The Lokal @ Neil Road
136 Neil Road
Good portions of delicious food beautifully presented in a trendy cafe – even if the prices are not very low, it is a great value meal because eating at The Lokal is what hip experiential dining is all about.
Shiraishi @ Marina South
Shiraishi Japanese Restaurant
Ritz Carlton Hotel
7 Raffles Avenue
Shiraishi serves top flight Japanese food and items on their ala carte menu are rather pricey. However, their more affordable lunch sets ranging from $30++ for the tempura set to about $70++ for a bento offer great value, considering the quality of the food and its luxurious location.
5 Little Monkeys @ Kallang
5 Little Monkeys Cafe
20 Kallang Avenue
#11-00 Pico Creative Centre
The charming spacious cafe offers a panoramic view, has great atmosphere and good Peranakan dishes at prices from $4.80, with no GST and service charge. Whether you are eating alone or in a group, you can get a great value meal at the 5 Little Monkeys Cafe.
