Spizzico (Westgate) Italian Restaurant in Jurong East

Spizzico Westgate is a relatively new casual Italian restaurant in the Westgate mall in Jurong East.  Located on the ground floor of the mall at the side that is near the Jurong East MRT station, it has a prominent frontage and is easy to find. What caught our attention was the large set lunch special billboard with 3 course meals and coffee  starting from $13.

Part of the dining area of Spizzico Restaurant is air-conditioned. The remaining part is outside along the main walkway that winds through Westgate Mall. There is sufficient shade and fans to keep the place sufficiently ventilated except for the hottest of days. We were there on one of those days and opted to be seated inside. Here are the set lunch menu and some pages from the regular menu.

There was also a beer on tap deal, two half pints for $12.90. It was an offer we could not refuse on a hot day. We selected one each of the light and dark German beers. We thought that the taste was not as rich as we expected of German beers.

For the set lunch there was a choice of starters – soup or prosciutto and melon. Since there were two of us, we tried both. Both were not bad. The slice of melon was very skinny.

For main course, we selected the lasagna ($18) and the grilled salmon ($22). We liked the lasagna. This familiar Italian dish was as it should be,  good tasting and without any surprises. It was also served in a large portion.

The grilled salmon had a slight muddy taste, but the cooking was very good. The sides were golden brown and the skin was grilled to a high level of crispness.

For dessert, there was no choice – only Panna cotta was available. We are not great fans of this dish but this one was not bad as it was not too sweet.

So far, the meal had its hits and misses. The best part was the coffee that was served at the end.  The quality of coffee was very good.  Overall, the set lunch at Spizzico was a fair deal. Come without expecting gourmet Italian food and you will not be disappointed. We would want to try the pizzas the next time. At $14, that would perhaps be a better value for money proposition.
