눈사람 Nunsaram Korean Dessert Cafe @ Westgate

Nunsaram

눈사람 Nunsaram Korean Dessert Cafe specialised in Korean style snowflake ice kachang or bingsu. Nunsaram’s first cafe in Orchard Central is popular. They have a branch in Westgate and now also have a takeaway outlet in United Square. On their menu are the usual items like patbingsu and injeolmi bingsu as well as interesting ones like sweet potato bingsu, garlic cheese bread and tteogkkoji.

눈사람 Nunsaram Korean Dessert Cafe @ Westgate is located on level 4. It is like a large kiosk with open sitting area. The furnishing is simple with lots of wood used in the decor. The place has a homely calm atmosphere.

It is a self-service cafe. Orders and payment are made at the counter. A buzzer is given. You get your food and beverages from the collection point when you are buzzed. You can help yourself to water.

I was in Westate in Jurong East recently and needed a coffee break. It was too early in the day to have a bingsu all by myself. (As an aside, why don’t bingsu come in small portions?) I ordered an iced Americano ($4.50) and their Injeolmi Toast ($5.90).

It took a while for the Injeolmi Toast to be prepared. It came nicely presented and looked delectable. The toasted bread had pieces of Injeolmi (Korean glutinous rice cakes) as filling. The toasts were topped with a generous amount of peanut powder, almond flakes and cranberry and then drizzled with honey. The thick toasts were crunchy outside and soft and tender inside and the injeolmi was chewy. The combination of different textures and variety of flavours added by the toppings made the Injeolmi Toast a very enjoyable snack.

The iced Americano was served in a Mason jar mug. In spite of lots of ice cubes in the mug, the lovely rich flavour of the espresso was still retained. The coffee was nicely balanced and refreshing and went well with the Injeolmi Toast.

눈사람 Nunsaram Korean Dessert Cafe at Westgate offers an interesting alternative to the usual kaya toast and coffee places. It has a pleasant open space which is great for a leisurely cup of coffee and people watching. Besides bingsu, a variety of sweet and savoury rice cakes and toasts are available. I enjoyed my coffee break at Nunsaram Korean Dessert Cafe and would likely visit it again.
