Canton Paradise in the basement of 112 Katong Mall is a casual Chinese restaurant with nice preppy interiors. It offers traditional Hong Kong favourites such as roast meats, wanton noodles, congee and dim sum. It also offers a good selection of reasonably priced Chinese restaurant staples. Canton Paradise 112 Katong has become one of our favourite places when we want a good simple Chinese meal in Katong.

The purple theme inside and outside the restaurant makes Canton Paradise 112 Katong stands out. The cashier is right at the entrance behind the dim sum display cabinets. The cashier can easily attend to those who buy the dim sum or roast meats for takeaway.

The interior is quite large and decorated in neat contemporary style with Oriental elements in the wood panels and carvings. The tableware fashioned in traditional style brings to mind old Chinese inns.
A show kitchen serves as a display of the tempting roast meats as well as allows diners to look at the chefs at work.

Although it is called Canton Paradise, there are many “non-Cantonese” items on the menu. Below are a few random pages of the menu.

We went there for dinner and ordered Sauteed French Beans with Minced Meat ($13.80), Chicken in Honey Sauce ($14.80) and Pan-seared Hakka Stuffed Tofu ($13.80). Plain Steamed Rice was $1.20 each and Chinese Tea was charged at $1.50 per person. The restaurant would charge $0.30 for each wet paper tower if you use the tower. Surprisingly, there was no charge for the appetizers served.

The French beans and minced pork stir-fry dish was very well done. The French beans was tender and had a good bite. The beans had a fresh flavour which was well complemented by the aromatic minced meat. It seemed like a healthy dish and was delightful.

The Chicken in Honey Sauce was also good. Served in a hot clay pot drizzled with pan juices, the chicken was tender and tasty. The slight sweetness from honey and the saltiness from soy sauce blended well to deliver a flavourful delicious treat.
The Hakka Stuffed Tofu was also served in a hot clay pot with plenty of broth. The broth served as a nice gravy when drizzled over plain steamed rice. Both the minced meat stuffing and tofu were very well prepared. The texture of the tofu was just right. The dish was good enjoyable comfort food.

On the whole we had a good dinner at Canton Paradise 112 Katong. The service there could be better but the restaurant had a nice atmosphere and the food we tried was good. Canton Paradise 112 Katong, with its wide selection of reasonably priced food and large pleasant space, can be a good restaurant in Katong for a simple cosy meal or a more elaborate affair with the family or a large dining party.
There also have Takeaway Bentos which are priced very reasonably. However, a minimum order of 5 sets is necessary.

Thank you.
It seemed like they just closed the outlet; we don’t think it was a case of relocation. There are other Canton Paradise outlets all over Singapore – see their webpage
