Tai Lei Loi Kei Macau Pork Chop at Vivo City

Tai Lei Loi Kei at Vivo City

Famous foreign food brands continue to make their way to Singapore. We have Souper Tang from Malaysia, Wrap & Roll from Vietnam, Mak’s Noodles from Hong Kong and Nara Thai from Thailand. 澳门大利来记猪扒包 Tai Lei Loi Kei is another foreign food brand that has established itself in Singapore. Tai Lei Loi Kei at Vivo City is the famous Macau pork chop bun store’s second outlet in Singapore.

Tai Lei Loi Kei is one of the several new eateries that have just opened (in mid June 2016) in basement 2 of Vivo City. London Fat Duck, A-One Claypot House and Milk & Honey have also opened new outlets there.

Tai Lei Loi Kei in Vivo City occupies a small space. The simply decorated cafe can sit about 20. Besides the signature Macau Pork Chop Bun, the menu also offers other delicacies like Macau chicken wings, curry fish balls, pineapple buns and sawdust cake as well as a good selection of rice and noodles dishes. Pictures of sections of the menu are below.

I thought I would go against the grain and not order the famous Macau pork chop bun and try something else instead. My non-conformist streak ended fairly quickly – I still chose something with pork chop and, following the latest food craze, something with salted egg yolk. I ended up ordering the Salted Egg Pork Chop Rice ($8.90) and the Macau Milk Tea ($2.80).

The system there is that you order and pay at the counter; and the food will be served to you. The wait for the food was about 10 minutes.

The Macau Milk Tea was not bad but I could not really tell how it was different our local tea with condensed milk.

The Pork Chop Rice was attractively presented. It was not fanciful plating but the effort in arranging the different elements of the dish neatly should be commended. The pork chop did not disappoint. It was tender and succulent. The salted egg sauce went quite well with the pork chop, although I could imagine Tai Lei Loi Kei traditional pork chop would taste better.

Tai Lei Loi Kei in Vivo City may not be a place you would want to linger or to have a leisurely lunch but it is good for a quick affordable meal. It is certainly good to have another place in Singapore where we can get the famous Macau pork chop bun. With the opening of Tai Lei Loi Kei and many other new eateries there, Vivo City is becoming an interesting dining destination again.
