Botejyu San is a Japanese restaurant specialising in okonomiyaki. It is located on level 2 of Star Vista, in between the Gan Yakitori and the Eighteen Chefs restaurants. According to their website, “Botejyu was founded in 1946 in the gourmet city of Tamade, Osaka. .. The name “Botejyu” is derived from the rhythmic cooking sound of okonomiyaki…”
Botejyu San Star Vista is not a large restaurant. The wood panelled space has a cosy feel. There were some set lunch special menus and their regular menu. Here are some pictures of the menus. The regular menu is available on their website (link below). We ordered the cha shu garlic rice and gyoza set ($11.90) and a teppanyaki tori set ($13.90).
This is the teppanyaki tori set, a platter of beef and vegetables with rice and miso soup. The serving of beef was generous. The taste was good, although we would have preferred it to be less oily.
This is the cha shu garlic rice and dumpling set. This was a decent plate of fried rice. Although described as cha siew, the pork toppings were more like bits of roasted pork belly (siew yuk). The highlight of the meal was actually the side dish of gyoza. They were very good – plump and deep fried to a light golden finish. The contents were tasteful without any heavy meaty taste. Next time we will probably just visit Botejyu San Star Vista and just eat gyoza with beer ($8 for Asahi beer).
Overall, lunch at Botejyu San Star Vista was a quiet, pleasant experience. It is located in a part of the mall which is slightly away from the main flow of pedestrian traffic. Do not expect gourmet Japanese cuisine, but simple straightforward food prepared on a teppan grill.
