Chicken Briyani and Mee Soto of Ghim Moh market

Mohamed Faisal Seeni Ghim Moh Nasi Bryani - 4

Today, we continue eating at the rebuilt and recently re-opened Ghim Moh market and food centre with a Ghim Moh Chicken Briyani from Mohamed Faisal Seen Eating House and some mee soto from Warong Idaman which is one stall away.

The Mohamed Faisal Seen Eating House is quite a popular stall at Ghim Moh market. A queue usually forms during lunchtime. They sell a wide range of food items such as murtabak, mee goreng and even roti prata. We decided to try their chicken biryani ($5.50) as we saw a few people eating it at the nearby tables. This was how the Ghim Moh chicken briyani looked in their takeaway package. The rice was wrapped in a waxed paper package and the chicken with curry were in the plastic bag.

This is the chicken briyani after its release from the package. It looked very appetising. All three components of this dish  – the rice, the chicken thigh and the curry were all very good. The rice was delicious by itself. The aroma of the spices and flavours floated out as soon as the pack was opened. The chicken thigh was quite large and cooked till soft but without being dry. The curry had strong robust flavours and was not very spicy, which was a good thing so as not to drown out the rice.

Warong Idaman

Now we move two stalls down to unit 01-39.  Warong Idaman sells dishes like lontong, mee siam, mee rebus and soto ayam. We decided on a mee soto ($3) as it was something we had not eaten in a while.

The mee soto was packed in a plastic container.  It became quite messy in the course of the journey home, so we will not show you the dish in its original packing. Due to our limited crockery, we transferred it into a Japanese bowl that was the perfect size for the contents.  The final result looked quite nice (if I may say so myself).

The broth of the mee soto was very good, tasty and very spicy. It has quite a kick to it. The amount of shredded chicken was quite low, but for a $3 item, we thought it was a fair dish. We think this dish will appeal to those who like a spicy bowl of noodles for lunch.

  1. Tried lontong from Warong Idaman. 3 pieces of rice cakes, 1 egg and 3 tiny pieces long beans. No other veg. Don’t bother.
