The decor of Babalicious at Marine Cove is simple – pleasant but unlikely to be featured in any interior decorations magazine. However, there are attractive and witty murals on the walls. There is a children’s play corner within the air-conditioned main dining hall. The outdoor seating gives a good view of the popular new children’s playground of Marine Cove and of East Coast Park.

We ordered their Set  for 2 ($28). The set comprises a soup, chicken with rice, 2 other dishes plus desserts. For the soup we chose the Bawang Kepiting Soup and opted for the Nyonya Chap Chye for the vegetables dish. We also selected the Nyonya Ngo Hiang and Roasted Chicken with Chicken Rice. The food was served within minutes. The serving portion was quite generous – more than enough to be shared by 2 average diners. Service was courteous and efficient.

We thought the Bawang Kepiting Soup was very good. The soup with crunchy shredded bamboo shoots was flavourful and the meatballs had a good combination of pork, prawn and crab meat. The simple looking soup dish had many layers of taste. It was delicious.

Babalicious Nyonya Chap Chye

The Nyonya Chap Chye was of the expected standard though we found the broth to be a tad too salty. The Ngo Hiang was another good item. The bean curd skin was crispy and the minced meat and prawn filling had a good texture with some crunchy bits of carrot and water chestnut. The overall taste was good.

Babalicious Ngo Hiang

The Roasted Chicken was tender and succulent. It was generously doused with a sauce which was a little too sweet for our liking. Aside from the sweetness of the sauce, the overall taste was not bad. The rice cooked with chicken stock was fragrant and tasty and had the right texture – enjoyable on its own even.

Babalicious Roasted Chicken

For desserts, we selected the Chendol and the Sago Gula Melaka. When they were served, even the staff had difficulty trying to tell which was which. They looked the same and tasted the same. Not bad but not quite worth the extra calorie intake.

Babalicious Desserts

On the whole, the dinner at Bablicious Reranakan Restaurant at Marine Cove was an enjoyable meal. The Bawang Kepiting and Ngo Hiang were very good and the rest of the dishes were not bad. It was a lot of food for 2 at only $28. We thought it a was really a good value meal.
