What to eat on Singapore’s 51st National Day 2016? One possibility is to try out some of the specially created National Day menus which restaurants have created for the special day. Today, we tried the Local Flavours Afternoon Tea at the Lobby Lounge Intercontinental Hotel in Bugis Singapore.
The menu looks like a top hits compilation of Singapore food. It includes savoury items like Chili Crab Kueh Pie Tee, Ayam Buah Keluak Crostini, and Five-Spice Kurobuta Pork Ngoh Hiang, as well as sweet delights such as the Pandan Kaya Cake, Chendol Panna Cotta and Ondeh Ondeh. All this at a quite reasonable price of $51 for two people.
Eating these local delights in the comfort of the beautiful Lobby Lounge Intercontinental Hotel made the afternoon tea today even more special.
Here are pictures of the three-tiered cake tray and some of the individual items. There was a free flow of teh tarik & Hainanese coffee.
The savoury items were all very good, especially the kueh pie tee and Ayam Buah Keluak Crostini. Eating these local favourites in the luxurious setting made them taste even better. Intercontinental Hotel serves afternoon tea on a regular basis but we believe this menu is only for today. They should repeat this concept on other days.
In contrast, the sweet items were generally good, but not as exceptional as the savoury items.
We are going to sign off now and watch the NDP 2016 on TV. But before we do that, here is a present for you – our personally decorated scone with strawberry jam and cream.
Happy National Day 2016 !
