Uma Uma Millenia Walk is a Japanese-styled izakaya and bar. It is located along the Japanese Food Street in the Millenia Walk mall. We stopped by for some happy hour beer and bar food. This is Uma Uma’s second restaurant in Singapore. Their first is Uma Uma Ramen located in Forum the Shopping Mall on Orchard Road.
The space in Uma Uma Millenia Walk is long and narrow. Seating is either along the bar counter or at the row of small tables along the other side of the restaurant. The decor was tasteful and simple. The row of empty sake bottles serve a reminder to all about the main purpose of visiting an izakaya. Here are pictures of portions from the Uma Uma Millenia Walk menu.
As you can see, the main food types were are the ramen and the grilled items. the latter being the perfect companion to go with their sake selections and happy hour beers. We ordered a mix of both.
The yakitori sticks were sold individually at $2 each. We tried a few types plus a plate of sting ray fins. The yakitori was well-prepared – nicely charred but not burnt. The sting ray fins were not what we expected them to be. Not really grilled, they were more chewy than crispy and tasted like dried cuttle-fish.
We tried the Uma Uma ramen ($14). It has the usual deep flavourful pork based soup, some char siew pork slices and a half egg. Some spicy miso provided a mild kick to the taste. This was a good bowl of ramen.
The best dish that we tried at Uma Uma was the bite sized gyoza ($8). These gyoza are half the size of regular ones. They were perfectly pan-fried till golden brown. The taste was very good. We will come back to Uma Uma just for these gyoza and the Asahi Dry beers. Overall, this is an easy-going place to meet up with friends for drinks and a simple meal after work.
