Stamping Ground Coffee House East Coast (Closed)

The botanical theme seems to be one of the latest trends for restaurants and cafes in Singapore. There are flowers on the table, plants and floral arrangements all over the dining space and even flowers in our food. Stamping Ground Coffee House might have found the best way to tap into the blossoming trend – share premises with a florist. A modern shophouse at 87 Upper East Coast Road is shared by Stamping Ground Coffee House and Dawn Q. floral design. A lovely space filled with beautiful flowers where floral scent and the aroma of fresh coffee permeate – Stamping Ground Coffee makes it to our list of the coolest cafes in the East.

Stamping Ground Coffee House is small and cosy. There are a few tables in the patio outside its glass frontage. Inside there are a few wooden communal tables and a bar top counter. The contemporary interiors of the florist shop and the cafe are well integrated and look neat and welcoming. You can take a sip from your cup of coffee while simultaneously enjoy the scent and sight of beautiful fresh flowers.

We asked if we could sit up on the mezzanine floor (apparently many other customers have also asked the same question). We were politely told that the fully furnished mezzanine floor was in fact an event space. It has the capacity to hold more than 20 and has equipment such as a projector and wall screen. It is open to the public to hold private functions, events or workshops.

Stamping Ground Coffee House takes their coffee seriously. There are impressive looking coffee machines, bean grinder and all sorts of cafe implements on display. They have a new cold brew bottle – which they named “Knock-out Concentrate” because it is small but punchy.

They also serve other beverages including chocolate, beer and cider. There is a small selection of pastries and cakes. The food menu is limited.

You place your order and pay at the counter and the food and beverages will be served to you. No GST or service charge will be added to the bill. Help yourself to water from a retro style water dispenser.

We ordered a Stamping Ground Cold Brew Coffee with Milk ($6). The cold brew coffee concentrate can be mixed with water, milk, almond milk or even coconut water. The bottled cold brew coffee was served with milk in a tall glass. We were advised to pour the contents of the bottle into the milk in one go and enjoy. We did – and really enjoyed the result. The aroma and the balanced taste of coffee beans were not masked by the milk. It was a nice glass of cold coffee which could be savoured slowly in sips.

We also had a Beef Pastrami Sandwich ($13) and a slice of Lemon Cake ($6) to go with our coffee. The portions were quite generous.

The Beef Pastrami Sandwich was not bad although the spicy Sriracha sauce dominated. The cole slaw was very nice and refreshing and we liked the sweet cherry tomatoes. The lemon cake was quite ordinary – looks and taste were both unremarkable.

On the whole, the food at Stamping Ground Coffee House would not be something to get excited about. The coffee we have tried was very good. The staff was friendly and efficient. The service, scent, sight and surroundings make Stamping Ground Coffee House a sublimely pleasant place to start the morning or for an afternoon coffee break. It may also be a good place for a date or for a special occasion. If the need arises, like when you forget an anniversary or to buy a present, it will be most convenient to pick up a bouquet from Dawn Q. floral design while you order coffee from Stamping Ground Coffee House.
