Crystal Jade Kitchen at Centrepoint

The Centrepoint in Orchard Road is transforming into an attractive dining destination. Having seen an exodus of long-time tenants, the mall has managed to attract a number of new eateries which have brought a buzz back to the mall. The new Crystal Jade Kitchen is one of the local favourites attracting diners to The Centrepoint. We visited Crystal Jade Kitchen at Centrepoint on a recent weekend and had an enjoyable lunch in a pleasant setting.

Crystal Jade Kitchen at Centrepoint

Crystal Jade Kitchen at Centrepoint occupies quite a big space on the third level of the mall. The display of roast meats behind the glass-windowed kitchen tempts you before you even enter the restaurant. Dim sum items are available at the take-away counter situated at the main entrance.

Crystal Jade Kitchen Takeaway

Crystal Jade Kitchen at Centrepoint is quite nicely decorated. It has a modern vibrant look. The dining area is not walled-in, which makes it seem spacious and airy.

We ordered the Deep-fried Eggplant with Chicken Floss ($6.80), Lean Meat Century Egg Congee  ($8.80) and 2 dim sum items.

Crystal Jade Kitchen

The Eggplant and congee looked rather plain and unexciting but both were delicious and enjoyable. A thin crunchy batter encased the eggplant of soft melting texture in the centre. The chicken floss gave the bite sized delicacy additional flavour and dimension.

The congee was very smooth and tasty and we liked the crispy dough fritter pieces. What impressed us was that they used tender juicy pulled pork instead of just thin slices of lean pork. The humble bowl of porridge was satisfying comfort food.

Crystal Jade Kitchen Dim Sum

Our first dim sum item was the Baked BBQ Honey Pork Bun ($4.80 for 3 pieces). The buns had soft fluffy inside with a slightly crunchy crust. The char siew was well made and we liked its sweet savoury taste.

The second dim sum item was the Mango Prawn Roll ($5.80). The prawn and mango filling and a generous amount of sweet mayonnaise were coated with a nice crunchy brown crust. There was a delightful mix of flavours and textures. Very nice.

We were charged the usual overheads – $1.60 per head for Chinese tea, $2.50 for pickles and $0.30 for each paper towel. Service charge and GST would be added on top of all that.

New Centrepoint Crystal Jade Kitchen Dim Sum

Overall, it was an enjoyable meal in a casual pleasant setting. The food was of the reliably good standard we have come to expect of Crystal Jade restaurants.
