Suntec City’s Sky Garden is one of the new dining hotspots. Located on the third floor of the North Wing of Suntec City, the dining enclave is set in a lush roof garden overlooking the famed Fountain of Wealth. The IndoChine Group has two establishments in the Sky Garden – Arn Nan Bar & Bistro and Saint Ma Restaurant. Dining hotspot had a new meaning for us when we had lunch on a warm afternoon at Saint Ma at Suntec Sky Garden.
Suntec City’s Sky Garden is probably zen-inspired with bamboo lining the walkways. Taking centre stage at the Sky Garden is Indochine’s Arn Nan with a fish tank island bar.
Arn Nan, which means Redman in Teochew, is a funky place for drinks, though you can also enjoy the food served in Saint Ma restaurant. A long narrow walkway links Arn Nan to Saint Ma.
Saint Ma restaurant is designed to give the open-air garden experience, offering views of the landscaped garden and city skyline. The interior has the typical Indochine vibes. The red chandeliers and vertical gardens give added flamboyance to the space.
The menu of Saint Ma at Suntec Sky Garden features a mixture of IndoChinese, Western and fusion dishes. Here are pictures of sections of the menu.
We ordered the mandatory dish when eating at Indochine – Crispy Spring Rolls ($17). We also decided to try the Indochine Kway Teow ($14) and the Asparagus with Crab Paste ($18).
The deep-fried spring rolls were rather ordinary. The skin was a tad thicker and harder than we liked. We would take the spring rolls off our list of must eat item at Indochine’s restaurants.
The Indochine Kway Teow did not sound very exotic. It did not look very exciting either. The taste was, however, surprisingly good. The ingredients included large prawns and a variety of vegetables. With a squeeze of lime over it, the stir-fried noodle dish was very enjoyable.
The Asparagus with Crab Paste was our favourite dish for the day. The fresh and crunchy asparagus was well coated with a tasty crab meat sauce. The sauce was like a version of the typical Singapore chilli crab sauce, but lighter and less spicy.
Overall we quite liked the food of Saint Ma at Suntec. It was, however, not the most pleasant lunch as we had very little protection from the strong afternoon sun and the cooling system at Saint Ma was not that effective. So we ended up feeling quite warm and muggy in the new dining hotspot of Suntec City. It is perhaps best to go to Saint Ma for dinner on a cool evening.
