Lunch at Botanica Tokyo, modern Italian restaurant designed by Terence Conran

Botanica Tokyo, is a modern Italian restaurant designed by famous designer Terence Conran. It is located in the Tokyo Midtown, an interesting mall which also houses the Suntory Museum of Art and is connected to the Ritz Carlton Hotel Tokyo. It was no surprise then that the place was beautifully furnished and they serve a wonderful lunch. The only unexpected thing was how reasonably priced the lunch was.

The decor was simple and modern. Situated on the fourth floor which is the top of the shopping podium block. The Botanica restaurant enjoys access to the roof garden where there are some outdoor tables which would be attractive places to be on warmer days.

Here are pictures of the lunch menus at Botanica. Menu A was a four-course meal for 3,000 yen and Menu B was a five-course meal for 5,800 yen. The main difference being an additional fish course in the latter. We opted for Menu A.

We were seated by the window which provided great lighting for our pictures. The amuse bouche was a beautiful start to the meal.

The starter was baked porcini risotto, marinated mushroom and salad. The marinated mushroom had a strong earthy taste. The small portion of risotto was served in a shape of a disk. The combination of the mushroom taste with the risotto was very good.

The main course was grilled chicken marinated with miso and guinness beer. The  puree, hazelnut  and beansprouts added more taste and texture to the dish.

Each person had two desserts, so we tried all four types available. They look so attractive and tasted just as good.

The coffee and mignardies completed the lunch. The lunch menu A at Botanica Tokyo did not serve any exotic fish or expensive cuts of meat, but we could tell that a lot of effort and thought had gone into preparing the dishes. Throw in the excellent service and elegant ambience to make lunch at Botanica a really enjoyable experience.
