French crepes from Brittany at Entre-Nous Creperie

Entre-Nous Creperie is a small restaurant specialising in making traditional French crepes using organic buckwheat flour from Brittany. It is located next to the Toy Museum on Seah Street, just behind the Raffles Hotel.  In line with the Brittany theme, there are pictures of the sea and a fishing net on the walls.

Entre-Nous Creperie has a long and narrow dining space indoors and a few alfresco tables outdoors. The kitchen is located behind the blue wall. The restaurant is small and basic but it exudes some warmth as the owner’s touch is obvious in the various small knick knacks and decorative items placed around the restaurant.

Here is a copy of the menu. The main event was of course the wide selection of crepes but there were also some other types of food like duck rillettes, quiche etc. We ordered a onion soup ($12.90), one savoury crepe – the Brehat ($19.90) and a sweet crepe – Geraldine’s Favourite ($14.90) and some coffee.

The homemade French onion soup was served with Emmental cheese and croutons on the side. The onion soup at Entre-Nous Creperie was of the mild-mannered variety.  It was pleasant with a well-balanced taste, although we would have preferred a stronger onion taste. The coffees were average.

The Brehat crepe was served with a small salad. The buckwheat crepe has a nice mild nutty taste. There were fillings of Emmental cheese, ham and egg.  All the ingredients combined well together to make a very delicious dish. The Brehat crepe occupies a large surface area of about one square foot but it is extremely thin. The good thing was that we did not feel stuffed after eating it.

The sweet crepes were made of organic wheat flour. The texture was therefore smoother and more neutral. The Geraldine’s Favourite crepe contained fillings of cooked apple. Eaten with the homemade salted butter caramel and homemade ice cream, it has a wonderful taste. Like the other crepe, this was a very light dish.  We did not experience any guilt at all after eating them.

Overall, we appreciated the focus by Entre-Nous Creperie on crepes. These are some of the best crepes we have eaten in recent times.
