Bird Bird at Frankel Avenue is a restaurant by Chef Bjorn Shen of the fashionable Artichoke. He opened Bird Bird House of Thai Chicken in Ann Siang Road back in 2015. Bird Bird House had mixed reviews but its fried chicken was popular. Bird Bird’s move to Frankel is not just moving to a new location but moving into a new concept – one which concentrates on fried chicken. Bird Bird at Frankel Avenue is a simple American-style fried chicken restaurant.

We visited Bird Bird at Frankel Avenue for dinner. The staff were cheerful and friendly and seemed to be enjoying what they were doing. We ordered the Birdhouse Special ($24) and Breakfast Sandwich ($18) as well as a Flat white ($5) and Long Black ($4).
The Birdhouse Special was their signature buttermilk fried chicken with cornbread waffle and coleslaw. Chunky mash with country sausage gravy were served in a separate small bowl.
The cornbread waffle was very good and the mash with sausage gravy was also quite enjoyable. The buttermilk fried chicken was worth the trip to Bird Bird. The buttermilk-soaked, flour-dredged fried chicken had skin that was crisp and tasty. It was not greasy. The chicken was well seasoned, flavourful and not too dry. On the whole the dish was substantial, scrumptious and satisfying.
The Breakfast Sandwich had small thick slabs of bacon chop, egg mayo, arugula and tomato jam. The sandwich was served with purple potato chips and truffle sauce. The dish was not bad and we really liked the sweet tomato jam.
We had the coffee brewed fresh with Common Man Roasters beans. They were strong and aromatic – very good.
The folks living in the East must be happy that Bird Bird has decided to fly to Frankel Avenue. It is a pleasant casual space with nice music, tasty food and good coffee. We will certainty be visiting Bird Bird at Frankel Avenue again.
