Spize Rifle Range – Asian & Western restaurant at Temasek Club

Last week, we wrote about our visit to the Chinese restaurant at Temasek Club in Rifle Range Road. Today, we will tell you about the other restaurant there, the Spize Rifle Range restaurant – Asian & Western restaurant at Temasek Club.  You do not need to be an army officer or MINDEF personnel or a member of the club to patronise the restaurants. Both the restaurants are open to the public.

The Spize Rifle Range restaurant is a beautiful place. It is big and spacious. Like the Chinese restaurant, Dragon Phoenix Grand (read our review here), it has the view of the surrounding Bukit Timah nature reserve and the swimming pool. This is probably one of the best views from a public restaurant in Singapore.

A large restaurant in the middle of the forest should be almost deserted on a normal weekday right? Wrong. Many other people also have the same idea and were also there having lunch. A quick glance at the menu quickly told us why. The Spize Rifle Range restaurant has an extensive menu of Asian and Western food items.  The prices also seem quite reasonable. Here are pictures of the Asian and Mediterranean sections of the menu.

We placed our order for two items – Hokkien Prawn Mee ($12.90) and Lamb Briyani ($13.90). The prawn mee arrived nicely presented with four medium-sized prawns. Their nice red shells look nice but it was tricky getting their shells off.  We would have preferred them de-shelled. The broth and the noodles did not have the strength of the seafood taste of some other prawn mee we have tried but it was balanced and pleasant. The portion of this prawn noodle was quite small.

In contrast, the lamb briyani was served in a generous portion. Two of us shared the dishes and so they averaged out to be enough for two people. We were happy with this dish. Each component of it was good – the lamb curry, the South Indian dahl and the basmati rice. If we had to nit-pick, it was that the papadums were slightly soft.  We would highly recommend this dish to anyone who dines at The Spize Rifle Range restaurant.

Overall, it was a pleasant lunch at The Spize Rifle Range restaurant. It is a beautiful restaurant set in a tranquil location. Its far-flung location makes this not a place where non-members would go frequently unless they stay or work nearby. But it deserves a visit by anyone seeking an occasional change of scenery at lunch.  Here is a picture of the Temasek Club entrance from our last visit.
