The Oval at Seletar Aerospace Park (SAP) is a new hip food enclave. Wheeler’s Estate is one of the several new food and beverage places operating in theย black and white colonial buildings that sit on the grounds just next to the Seletar Airport. Housed in an elegantly restored heritage building, surrounded by lush greenery and serving modern Australian cuisine, Wheeler’s Estate Seletar will appeal to foodies and photographers, especially amateur food photographers.

The Oval @ SAP
Seletar Aerospace Park serves as a key Asia-Pacific hub for the maintenance, repair and overhaul of aircraft components and engines; with global names like Rolls-Royce and Airbus havingย facilities in the park. ย A number of the colonial black and white buildings and bungalowsย at The Oval @ SAPย have been turned into F&B outlets. The eateries that we saw there included YOUNGS Bar & Restaurant, Di Wei Teochew Restaurant, The Summerhouse and Wild Seed Cafe.

Wheeler’s Estate

Wheeler’s Estate occupies a large 2-storey building, an outhouse and sprawling grounds.

The restaurant is on the upper floor.ย The seating area on the ground level is not air-conditioned. There are picnic tables on the front porch and the surrounding lawn. You can have a picnic at the lawn (a special Valentine’s Day picnic basket menu is available).

We went to Wheeler’s Estate Seletar for brunch on a weekend. Though not completely unexpected, we were still surprised by the size of the crowd that got there before us. The car park was full and all the tables in the air-conditioned dining hall was either occupied or reserved. We had to make do with seats at the bar counter at the veranda.

The service staff were generally nice and efficient. However, it was obvious that a few of them were new and not well-trained yet; and as the crowd got bigger, the staff seemed a bit stretched.
Wheeler’s Estate has different menus for different times of the day and a separate breakfast menu for weekends.

We ordered a Feed Me Breakfast ($24) and a Smashed Avo ($18). Coffee was $5 each. GST and service charge would be added to the bill. The food and drinks were served very promptly.

The Feed Me Breakfast was a huge breakfast with the works – eggs, potato rosti, sausage, bacon, toast, mushroom and vegetables. It was of the expected standard. However, add a bit of theย sweet, tangy bull-dog sauce provided and everything tasted better and the dish satisfiedย appetite and desire. Even a growing teenager will not be saying “feed me” for a few hours after the Feed Me Breakfast.

The Smashed Avocado on toast topped with poached eggs looked really pretty. It was well put together and the taste was not bad. The portion was just about right and it seemed like a healthy dish too.

Wheeler’s Estate Seletar is a charming place with scenic surrounding. Their food and coffeeย are not better that those served in decentย brunch places that are more centrally located in the city. However, it presents a rustic getawayย if you want a change from eating in lookalike malls.
