We visited Café&Meal MUJI Paragon some time ago and were not too impressed by the “food court economical rice in glamorous shopping mall” experience. When Café&Meal MUJI Raffles City opened, the cafe looked attractive and there were new food items and set deals. We decided to give Cafe Muji at Raffles City a try.
Café&Meal MUJI at Raffles City is still a self service cafeteria. You queue to order your food and help yourself to cutlery and water. There is a helpful chart with photos to explain how things work.
The Basic 3 Deli and 4 and Deli Sets, with bread or a bowl of rice, cost $12.90 or $16.90 respectively. Buy a drink with the set and you get a $1 discount. Here are a few photos of Cafe Muji’s Menu.
Here are a few photos of the actual food items on display at Cafe Muji at Raffles City. Menu.
We ordered a 3 Deli Set ($12.90) and a Butter Curry Chicken ($14.90). For the 3 Deli Set, we selected the Spicy Yuzu Pork, potatoes and salad with brown rice. A coffee was $4.90 and a glass of mulberry juice was also $4.90 (before the $1 discount).
The portions were not big but adequate. The Spicy Yuzu Pork had a strong yuzu flavour but was not spicy – on the whole quite tasty.
The Butter Curry Chicken was a simple dish – rice with the typical Japanese sweet curry. There were a few small pieces of Sakura chicken plus carrots and potatoes in the curry. The dish was not bad but it would be hard to get excited about it. You can buy the packaged butter chicken curry sold at Muji and have the dish at home.
Cafe Muji at Raffles City is a very pleasant space. You can linger there for a while. The food they offer is not bad but nothing to write home about. Go there without high expectations and you should enjoy a simple meal in a cozy environment – Japanese minimalistic style.
