Lunch at Kaneta Shoten
We visited Kaneta Shoten at Chinatown Point for lunch and ordered a Unagidon ($12.90) and the Shoyu Ramen with soft-boiled flavoured egg ($13.90). The wait for the food was fairly short.
The Unagidon was of the expected standard and tasted quite good. We thought they were a tad too generous with the unagi sauce. Much of the rice was soaked in the sauce.
The Shoyu Ramen had a light clear broth with was flavourful. The texture of the noodles were slightly softer than the way we liked them. The Cha Shu was meaty with a clean taste. The marinated soft-boiled egg was well done and had custard like yolk. The egg was delicious and also helped to enhanced the richness of the ramen broth. On the whole the Shoyu Ramen was enjoyable and satisfying.
We saw a queue forming up quite quickly outside Kaneta Shoten during the peak lunch hours. We can understand the popularity of the restaurant. The dining area is pleasant and the service is great. Although the menu is not extensive, the food is of good quality and the prices are reasonable. Kaneta Shoten is one the best places for casual dining in Chinatown Point.
