A nice set lunch in Singapore below $30 (Orchard Road)

Living in a city with a high cost of living, it is only natural that we tend to look out for good lunch deals. Today’s post is on a subject which I think many of us look for now and then – a good set lunch in Singapore below $30. The one at Italian restaurant Il Cielo probably ticks all the right boxes – a nice place (in 5-star Hilton no less) quiet (on the top floor where not many even know it exists), good service and at a reasonable budget. We think it is a weekday set lunch in Singapore below $30 that does the trick. We have been there before but it does not fail to impress us with by the $25 set lunch. With GST and service charge, the total cost per person came up to about $30.

Here is a picture of the weekday set lunch at Il Cielo.  The two-course option costs $25, three-course for $35. We stuck to our below $30 lunch budget and selected the two course options.

A basket of bread was provided soon after we ordered. The amount of bread served was generous.

For starters we had the Buffalo Mozzarella Salad and the Homemade Smoked Norway Salmon. Both were beautifully presented. The mozzarella salad was wrapped with a sheet of prosciutto ham. This was a distinctly Italian dish. The soft light cheese and fresh tomatoes made this a refreshing starter to the meal.

The Norway smoked salmon had a more refined taste. The bits of salmon were artistically scattered on the plate with chunks of burrata cheese and vegetables. They combined very well with the salsa verde.

For mains we chose the Slow Cooked Mangalica Pork Belly and Pan Fried Fillet of Barrumundi. The pork belly was served in a generous portion. It had obviously been cooked a long time. The meat was soft and fully saturated with the wine sauce.  It contained a good mix of layers of fat and lean meat.  Very delicious but potentially bad for calorie watchers.

We suspect the pan-fried barramundi is the more healthy option. It was expertly cooked. The skin was crispy. The meat was firm and went well with the basil lemon butter sauce. Very good but not as interesting as the pork.

Our lunch Il Cielo at was a delightful way to have a slow lazy lunch in Orchard.  It looked and felt more like a $60 lunch. We will continue our search for more options for a nice set lunch in Singapore below $30.
