SBCD may look like the name of a Korean pop group, but it is not. It is a Korean restaurant – SBCD Korean Tofu House which officially opened in Tanjong Pagar Centre at the start of 2017. It is quite a large restaurant with tables arranged in tidy neat rows. Its signature dish is the soontofu – a spicy soup with freshly made soft tofu that is prepared daily.
SBCD Korean Tofu House Menu
A big part of the SBCD Korean Tofu House Menu is taken up by the soontofu selections. Soontofu is basically a pot of boiling hot spicy soup with the soft tofu inside. The various options involve selecting the toppings for the soup (different types of meat or seafood) and also some Combo Meal options. The level of spiciness can be selected. Here are pictures of the SBCD Korean Tofu House menu. We selected a Soontofu with seafood ($19.90) and a Korean seafood pancake ($19.90).
Some side dishes which come with the soontofu dish were served first. The small fish, seaweed and kimchi tasted good but the quantity was small. Eating the fish required surgical skills to pick at the flesh while avoiding the bones.
The seafood soontofu was served soon after. It was a boiling pot of soup, accompanied by a stoneware bowl of rice.
We were glad that we selected “mild” as the desired level of spiciness. It was sufficiently spicy to leave a tingling sensation on the palate but without overpowering the delicate seafood inside. There were some clams, a couple of prawns and a piece of flower crab. The seafood items were all good, but eating them was a messy affair as their shells were still on. We will probably opt for some easier alternatives like beef or chicken in the future. The taste of soup was delicious. The tofu was delicate and light.
The Korean seafood pancake is a dish we tend to order at Korean restaurants. So far, the standard of this dish in Singapore has been good. The one at SBCD Korean Tofu House was no exception. It has a great taste and a good mix of seafood and vegetables. We would have liked it even more if it was not so oily.
Overall, lunch at the SBCD Korean Tofu House was a pleasant experience. It is another place we have saved on our list of go-to Korean restaurants in Singapore. It is easily accessible from the Tanjong Pagar MRT station which connects directly to Tanjong Pagar Centre in B2. Just take an escalator up to B1 to get to SBCD.
