There are many reasons we like to visit Spain. Spanish food and restaurants rank high on the list. There are attractive places to eat at different levels of budgets. It is not just the food. Nice people and affordable prices (especially for the Spanish wines served in restaurants) all contribute to the dining experience. Here is a list of the best Barcelona restaurants that we tried in 2016 and 2017.

Casa Calvet restaurant
Our main motivation to eat at Casa Calvert was to see the building. Built in 1899, it is one of Antoni Gaudí’s earliest buildings. It does not look as quirky as some of his later ones. Given that entering the other Gaudi buildings involve paying an admission fee and sometimes long queues, it was an experience just to enter and eat in one of these historic buildings. The 38 euro three course lunch (inclusive of mineral water, bread, wine, coffee and VAT) turned out to be very good and one of the best lunch deals in Barcelona. Read about our lunch here.
