Drawn to the attraction of free weekend car parking, we headed down to Alexandra Retail Centre (ARC) to check out the restaurants and places to eat there. After surveying the options, we ended up in Auntie Kim’s Korean Restaurant @ Alexandra Retail Centre. ARC is the podium block at the foot of the PSA Building. The shops and restaurants at ARC serve mainly the hordes of office workers from PSA Building as well as the neighbouring Mapletree Business City which is a huge place. Lunchtime is probably the main busy period. Which may explain why this is a rare Singapore mall that offers free parking after 6.30 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends.
Auntie Kim’s Korean Restaurant at Alexandra Retail Centre has a sister outlet at Upper Thomson Road. The decor at Auntie Kim’s ARC is simple and traditional. We were attended to quickly. The service at Auntie Kim’s Korean Restaurant (ARC) was efficient but not exactly friendly.
Auntie Kim’s Korean Restaurant (ARC) Menu
The menu at Auntie Kim’s ARC contained a wide range of traditional Korean restaurant dishes. Here are some pictures of some sample portions of the menu. We decided on two items – the seafood pancake and beef rib soup ($18 each).
The customary small dishes or banchan were served after we placed our order. We liked the kimchi and another dish that had a good balance of spiciness. The others were rather bland.
The beef ribs soup was served in a generous portion. There were four or five pieces of ribs in the pot. The taste was good but the beef was a bit tough. A bowl of rice accompanied the soup.
The seafood pancake is one of our favourite items at Korean restaurants. The one at Auntie Kim’s is not one of our favourites. The seafood content in our seafood pancake was low. We could only detect the occasional small bits of squid.
Overall: 2 TOPs
