The signage says “Bottega grocery and more”. We were attracted by the “more”. Bottega Tanjong Katong is a small grocery with a fair selection of fresh and dried Italian groceries as well as Italian beers, wine and mineral water. It is also a casual pizzeria featuring pizza made with Petra 3 (100% Italian soft wheat blend) and serving antipasti, pasta and desserts. Bottega Tanjong Katong allows you to savour a meal prepared with typical Italian grocery products without preparing it yourself.
Bottega Tanjong Katong occupies two small shop units in a fairly new low rise mixed development along Tanjong Katong Katong Road. In one of the units, there are shelves of groceries and a cashier’s counter. The other unit is an air-conditioned dining space. There are also bar tables in the corridor space in front of the two units.
Bottega Tanjong Katong Menu
The menu of Bottega Tanjong Katong is an uncomplicated affair printed on a folded sheet of A4 paper. As you can see from the pictures below, there is a good variety of pizzas, a selection of antipasti and a few items of primi. We did not see Dolce (or desserts) on the menu but the waiter told us that tiramisu and gelato were available.
Sometimes we are not too sure about “primi”, “secondi” and other terms when reading an Italian menu. In case you are like us, check out this simple useful guide which we found – Guide to an Italian Meal Structure.
Dinner at Bottega Tanjong Katong
We visited Bottega Tanjong Katong recently and ordered the Rustica Pizza ($18.80) and a Lagsana ($16.80) for dinner. We also ordered hot coffee and iced coffee, which were served promptly.
The Rustica Pizza came hot from the oven. The 12-inch pizza had thin crust and was topped with tomato sauce, asparagus, cheese, eggs and ham. The golden crust was light and crunchy and the base was of the right thickness. The simple toppings were delicious. The tomato sauce was not overpowering. We thought the pizza was better than most pizzas we had tried recently.
The homey dish of lasagna was very good. The traditional Italian dish of saucy stack of alternating sheets of pasta, cheese and minced meat with generous amount of tomato sauce was rich and tasty with a very nice home-cooked feel.
