“La Nonna” means grandmother in Italian and the restaurant serves traditional Italian country cuisine. On weekdays, La Nonna Holland Village along Lorong Mambong serves up some lunch specials. There was a choice of a $26 three course set lunch or the 1 for 1 deal. We stopped by to try the 1-for-1 lunch offer.
La Nonna Holland Village is located in a shophouse along a stretch which has a lot of f & b outlets. The decor is practical and unostentatious. There is an outdoor section (shaded) which would be a nice place to sit in the evenings to people watch. In the afternoon, the air-conditioned indoor space was the more popular location. The lunchtime special deal appears to be successful as La Nonna was bustling while many of the restaurants along the stretch were quiet.
La Nonna Holland Village Menu
There are no surprises in the La Nonna Holland Village Menu. The usual traditional items are there – antipasti, pasta, pizza and the mains (meat and fish items). The weekday one for one deal meant that the lower priced item is not included in the bill. We selected a La Nonna Pizza ($24.50) and a Risotto Allo Zafferano ($27) and were only charged for the latter.
The La Nonna pizza is our favourite pizza at this Italian restaurant. With an extremely thin crust, the special ingredients were black truffle, asparagus and a runny egg. These combined well with the tomato and cheeses to make a wonderful combination.
This was the first time we tried the Risotto Allo Zafferano. It looked nice enough, with the butternut pumpkin giving it a rich golden colour. The taste was not exceptional.
Lunch at La Nonna Holland Village was a straightforward with just two dishes to take advantage of the lunch time deal. We hope to return to try out the other items on the menu.
