Grasso Coffee at The Commerze @ Irving (Closed)

Grasso Coffee at The Commerze @ Irving is a nice little cafe in Tai Seng for cheap and good coffee and affordable meals. Located within a short walk from the Tai Seng MRT station, Grasso Coffee offers freshly brewed coffee in “both local and ‘Ang Moh’ style” as well as food like sandwiches, pastas and baked rice.

Grasso Coffee at The Commerze @ Irving

Started as a coffee takeaway kiosk in Simei, Grasso has been serving a good range of coffee for a number of years – from Kopi-O ($1.60) and Espresso ($2.00) to Kopi-C ($1.90) and Latte($4.00). They also have other beverages like tea, cocoa, Milo and exotic ice blends. Over time, they have added a fair variety of food to their menu.

Many go to Grasso Coffee at The Commerze @ Irving for takeaways throughout the day. The cafe opens early on weekdays to cater to those who want grab and go breakfasts.

Grasso Coffee (The Commerze)

The decor of Grasso Coffee at The Commerze @ Irving is fairly basic and unpretentious. There is a mixture of regular dining chairs, benches and bar stools to go with counters and tables of different heights and sizes.

It is quite a pleasant place when it is not crowded. It gets pretty busy during the lunch hours on weekdays.

Grasso Menu

Grasso Beverage Menu is quite extensive. The food items for takeaway include sandwiches and salads. Dine in guests can design their own sandwiches, baked rice and pastas. In addition to items on the menu, they also have special dishes from time to time. Below are photos showing the menu, ordering from and promotional posters seen at Grasso Coffee.

Affordable Meal at Grasso Coffee

Grasso Coffee (The Commerze)

We visited Grasso Coffee at The Commerze @ Irving for lunch and ordered a Croissant with Egg Mayo ($4.50) with a top up of $3 for Green Tea Cream; and the special dish of Chicken Cordon Bleu ($12.80). We also picked up a ready packed Pasta Salad (4.50) from the display freezer.

Ordering and payment were done at the counter. You pick up the food when you are prompted by the buzzer. No service charge or GST would be added to the bill.

The Green Tea Cream was essentially matcha with milk – not bad but not very special or exciting. The Egg Mayo Croissant was very good. The filling was generous – creamy and tasty. The croissant crispy, flaky and delightful – we would be happy to eat it without any filling.

The pasta salad was what we expected it to be when we picked it up from the display freezer. It was nice enough but nothing special or exciting.

Chicken Cordon Bleu at Grasso

The Chicken Cordon Bleu came with rice and salad. The chicken breast stuffed with cheese and ham had a nice golden brown coating that was crisp. The dish had layers of flavours and was delicious.

Grasso Ondeh Ondeh Cheese Cake

To round of our meal we tried Grasso’s Ondeh Ondeh Cheesecake ($5) and also had Kopi-C ($1.90). We were a little disappointed with the Ondeh Ondeh Cheesecake – it did not feel like we were eating cheesecake or ondeh ondeh. All the right ingredients might be there but the texture and flavours did not work for us. We love ondeh ondeh and we love cheesecake but we prefer to have them the traditional way – separately.

The kopi-c lived up to expectation – strong and aromatic. A simple traditional drink was a satisfying way to round off our meal.

The quality of food at Grasso Coffee was generally good and the prices were very reasonable. We enjoyed the coffee there. Grasso Coffee at The Commerze @ Irving would be high up on our list of places for affordable meals in the Tai Seng area.
