Si Chuan Dou Hua Chinese Restaurant in Tampines may look like a country cousin of the well appointed Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant located high up the 60th storey of UOB Plaza but the food it offers is just as good. Conveniently located on the ground level of Our Tampines Hub, Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant in Tampines offers a fine selection of Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine.
We have dined at Si Chuan Dou Hua at UOB Plaza and Si Chuan Dou Hua Parkroyal Hotel Beach Road. The restaurant at UOB Plaza is grand and offers spectacular views while the one at Beach road is nicely decorated in traditional Chinese restaurant style. Si Chuan Dou Hua Chinese Restaurant in Tampines has a relatively small dining space and a more casual atmosphere. However, it is still one of the most elegant and pleasant dining space in Our Tampines Hub and is good enough to host a business lunch or a family celebration.
Si Chuan Duo Hua Restaurant Menu
The menu of Si Chuan Dou Hua Chinese Restaurant in Tampines is quite comprehensive and includes Si Chuan Dou Hua signature dishes like Sichuan Dan Dan Noodle, Camphor Tea Smoked Duck, Chong Qing Diced Chicken with Dried Chilli and Minced Chicken Soup with Fungus. Here are photos of a few pages of the menu.
The restaurant serves Dim Sum for lunch and it also has reasonably priced lunch sets.
Dinner at Si Chuan Duo Hua Tampines
We went to Si Chuan Dou Hua Chinese Restaurant in Tampines for dinner and ordered a Stir-fried Hor Fun ($14), French Beans with Minced Meat ($14) and Cod Fish in Sweet Wine Sauce ($10 per piece). Service charge and GST would be added to the bill.
The food was served very promptly. The service staff must be commended. We were there on a busy Friday night and the restaurant was crowded. However, there were only two servers for the whole restaurant and they had to double up as cashiers and greeters as well. Nevertheless, they coped admirably well and were polite, attentive and as responsive as they possibly could be in those circumstances.
The stir-fried French beans with minced meat and crunchy bits of preserved vegetable was one of the best versions of this common dish we had tried. The French beans were cooked just right to retain their crispness and fresh taste. It was a delicious dish.
The dried hor-fun looked uninteresting but it was surprisingly tasty, with wok hei even. It was also not too oily.
The cod fish dish was even better than the other two. The fish had nice crispy skin and tender but firm flesh with a meaty texture and mild taste. The sweet wine sauce was very delicious and made the fish even more enjoyable. At $10 a piece, it was not inexpensive but we would happily order the Cod Fish in Sweet Wine Sauce again.
We were served Chinese tea (Lychee Red Tea if we heard correctly). At $4.50 per person, we thought it was rather expensive. Price aside, it was very good – fragrant and very slightly sweet. It was refreshing and a nice complement to the meal.
Nice Chinese Restaurant in Tampines
If we are looking for a nice Chinese restaurant in Tampines, we would probably head to Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant again. The service at this casual restaurant is good. It has a wide range of Cantonese and Sichuan dishes including simple one dish meals and dim sum for lunch. The food is of good quality and tasty. This is one country cousin that is not dowdy at all – just more casual and more accessible.
